Farms – Family, Economy, Change
Documentary 2025
Much is said about agriculture—what it is, what it needs to accomplish, what it expected of it. But what emerges when, instead of prescribing, we listen? The film accompanies four farms in Lower Saxony - two dairy farms and two pig farms, organic and conventional, large and small - and listens to the people who run them. It follows them through their everyday work: routines in the barn, decisions in the office, conversations around the farm. Around them, voices from research, politics, and advisory services gather - an echo of what reaches them from outside.
The film sidesteps the grand questions about agriculture’s future, and yet answers emerge. Between family responsibility, economic pressure, and societal expectations, quiet undertones sketch the contours of an ongoing process of change.
A documentary portrait of agricultural work as a mirror of a sector - and of the farms that produce what we consume, day in and day out.
